Developmental Consulting and Editing

Developmental consulting and editing focuses on higher-order concerns for your document: argument, structure, clarity of ideas, appropriateness of evidence, audience suitability, and more. Developmental services can be used at nearly any point in your writing process, from brainstorming through finalizing a manuscript for publication. You will receive a comprehensively annotated document with cover letter indicating key suggested revisions and observations of your manuscript.

Developmental consulting services include:

  • Careful reading for content and organization
  • Examining suitability of text for venue, purpose, and audience
  • Revising based on principles of scholarly writing, including key patterns and conventions in your specific discipline
  • Identifying issues such as lack of clarity and focus, logic of argument, unsubstantiated claims, suitability of evidence, and more

The development of the higher-order concerns for your manuscript -- those listed above -- is the most critical for your project's success. Enlisting a highly-credentialed academic editor will help ensure your project is the best it can possibly be.
